Working on Wellness: National Suicide Prevention Month

CHECK IN. LISTEN. CONNECT

We spend a lot of time looking out for our customers, our communities, and each other. This month is also a gentle reminder to also look out for ourselves.

Working can come with unique challenges; long hours, emergency response, demanding projects, field work, customer interactions, and the responsibility of keeping essential services running. Life outside of work brings its own challenges, too.

Sometimes things can simply become too much. You don't have to wait until you're in a crisis to ask for help. Call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (Free, confidential, 24/7)

look out for signs someone may be struggling

  • Withdrawn from coworkers, friends, or activities

  • Seems unusually anxious, hopeless, angry, or overwhelmed

  • Experiences significant changes in mood or behavior

  • Talks about feeling burdened or having no reason to keep going

Starting with a simple question may change someone’s day. “How are you really doing?”

If you are struggling, reach out

  • Talk with someone you trust.

  • Use your EAP resource

  • Talk with a mental health professional.

  • Take a moment to check in with yourself.

You don’t have to handle it alone!

Whether you're in the field, in the office, responding to an outage, working with customers, or supporting our operations behind the scenes, you are more than the work you do.

It's okay to not be okay.
It's okay to ask for help.
And you don't have to wait until things get worse to reach out.

Check in. Listen. Connect. Take care of yourself and each other.
