Belfair Electrical Upgrades Project
Big News for Belfair Projects!
For years now, we’ve been working toward electrical upgrades and expansion in the North Mason area. This year, we will see some big leaps forward, so it’s time for an update!
As a reminder, what we are calling the Belfair Electrical Upgrades project involves three main phases. A summary is below (Or check out our handy-dandy handout Belfair UGA Handout):
1. Phase 1: Upgrade the current Belfair substation & build switching station at former warehouse site.
July 16, we have a scheduled outage from 10 PM to about 6 AM the next morning to work on the substation and transmission.
The new Belfair substation power transformer is slated to be delivered on July 23 (catch a quick video of the old transformer’s removal on our Facebook or Instagram pages).
This summer we will also break ground on the new switching station, which will allow us to better utilize our transmission tap with Bonneville and enable us to build Phase 3.
2. Phase 2: Extend the Gateway feeder. We will complete the last mile of a powerline from the Union River substation to the Log Yard Road traffic circle to provide more power capacity for development. We have been allocated $1 million from the state capital budget to cover the cost. We are finalizing some plans and will get the work started soon.
3. Phase 3: Olympic Ridge substation & transmission line. We are seeking state and federal funding to build a new substation (tentatively named Olympic Ridge) near the Belfair Water Tower to support major development in the area. Of course, no substation is complete without the transmission line to serve it, so we will need to build a line from the new Belfair switching station (once it’s complete) along BPA corridors and the soon-to-be-built Highway 3 Freight Corridor. We are currently acquiring easements for this.
We have posted information on our website’s Belfair Electrical Upgrades page, which is a good place to direct members of the public looking for updates.
It’s going to be a busy, awesome July!
