National Preparedness Month – Know Our Plans
September is National Preparedness Month – a good opportunity to make sure we’re prepared to carry out our roles during a major disaster and to work safely every day.
Our crews are used to responding around the clock in all kinds of weather to restore electricity and broadband service and keep our community connected. Our Business Continuity Plan (BCP) & Department Response Plans build on that by providing a District-wide framework for responding when a major disaster or regional emergency affects our staff, facilities, or operations. Over the past year, we completed a major update to the plan and then worked with departments to review their essential functions and response plans.
We’re also rolling out our updated Accident Prevention Manual (APM), which brings our safety policies, procedures, and expectations together in one place. The APM provides employees with guidance to help identify hazards, prevent injuries, and perform our work safely.
A big thank you to the APM Sub-Committee and our Department Heads and team members that worked on the BCP for the time and expertise you contributed to updating these important resources. Your work helps strengthen our safety and preparedness across the District.
Our 2026 theme is “Power in Preparedness.” These resources help us put that theme into practice – preparing for the unexpected and making safe decisions every day.

Take some time to review the Business Continuity Plan, your department’s response plan, and the Accident Prevention Manual, and become more familiar with information that applies to your role. They are available at the links above or both can be found on the intranet policies page.
