South Mason Youth Soccer Club Appreciates PUD 3 Volunteers

β€œTo the PUD and its employees,

The South Mason Youth Soccer Club is a private non-profit that servers over 700 local children and their families as well as provides a place for local youth soccer teams to compete against other youth soccer teams from Grays Harbor County; Lewis County; and Thurston County. We have been working toward improving the playing conditions on the field by redoing the playing surface and adding in-ground irrigation. Estimates were received to complete the project with budgets totaling six and seven figures. Those estimates were far greater than a budget we could afford. With the help of a local volunteer coordinator we underwent an experimental deployment of an in-ground, automated watering system to keep the grass green and thriving year round. We worked with dozens of volunteers who contributed by operating bulldozers, excavators, dump trucks, loaders, and other types of equipment to haul in the necessary materials as well as excavate the area needed to put the irrigation in the ground. To date, with the community's donation of time, equipment, materials, and resources we hauled in over three-hundred tons of material to add to the existing soil and excavated over three thousand tons of material in order to install the equipment needed for the project.

Just recently I became aware of how many of the unheralded volunteers worked for PUD 3. Hours of digging in the dirt during hot summer afternoons. Standing in muddy trenches installing irrigation pipe during rainy fall Saturday mornings. Thank you to the retired PUD 3 employees who still volunteer their time to the community. Thank you to the hard working heavy equipment operators willing to work all day, then volunteer more hours of labor after their shift for the community. Thank you to the many PUD 3 employees willing to give back to the community by carrying and assembling more than four-thousands of feet of PVC pipe.
