The Ribbon is CUT at the Totten Substation
The Totten Substation Ribbon Cutting Event(s) happened over the last week at the new substation.
In addition to a socially-distanced three-part ribbon cutting event with PUD 3 Commissioners, several guests stopped by for a quick tour, including members of the Squaxin Island Tribe and a group from Taylor Shellfish. The Tribe’s cultural leaders performed a song and blessing at the substation.
Everyone marveled at the beautiful sign, the professional-looking site, and the importance of this future-focused critical infrastructure.
BPA wasn’t able to make it in person, but our Transmission Account Executive, Melanie Jackson, did pass along this nice message for the Mason PUD 3 team:
On behalf of Bonneville Power Administration, I’d like to congratulate you on the completion of the Totten Substation. Mason County PUD #3 has been a trusted partner with BPA for many years. I have had the great pleasure of working with Mason #3 since I started as a Transmission Account Executive in 2008. I remember first meeting with Wyla Wood back then at the previous office building in Shelton. Since then, I’ve appreciated Mason #3’s foresight and agility to be engaged not only in planning your own system but also with other utilities and the energy industry as a whole. It’s impressive to look at all the accomplishments for the utility just in the last 12 years I’ve worked with you. I truly appreciate Mason #3’s collaborative culture, and willingness (patience, really) to work with BPA. It’s a testament to the role you play in serving your customers. BPA wishes you all the best for now and years to come and look forward to the next project to partner with you on.
Operations switched the substation into regular operation June 4, 2020.
